Mooney on Global Warming in the WaPo

If you're looking for a good read this morning, I suggest you pop over to the Washington Post's Opinion pages. Scibling Chris Mooney has an excellent op-ed in there today, in response to George Will's recent climate change denial escapades.

The AGW foundation being human contributed CO2... a trace gas... of which we contribute statistically insignificantly to is the omega of the AGW hysteria. CO2 does not just float up and shield the Earth. It is a pawn in countless Earthly mechanisms.

Do elaborate larry. Let's see some dates and numbers.

  • Since the entire greenhouse effect is due to trace gasses -- water vapor, CO2, ozone, and some others -- a large increase in one of the largest (40% in CO2, which, in a count by molecules, is about 20% of the greenhouse molecules) is indeed significant.
For how we know that the increase in CO2 is from human activities, see the CO2 Rise FAQ by Jan Schloerer and the scientific references therein.

  • We've got to be united to save earth! Earth Hour is practised at large scale in all developed and developing countries but there has been more publicity and awareness this year, as well as participation from large corporations like http://www.commit21.com/ which is a good sign - that there is still hope and that people still care!
Let's all do this, no matter where you are! Saturday, 28 March 2009. Lights off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm!
